Help End Domestic and Sexual Violence
On Saturday, September 26, 2026, the Brentwood Franklin Woman’s Service Club will join GFWC clubs across the globe for the GFWC International Day of Service, focused on ending domestic and sexual violence.
Approximately 1 in 3 women and 1 in 10 men age 18 or older experience domestic violence. Each year, domestic violence is responsible for more than 1,500 deaths in the United States. Together, we can help change these heartbreaking statistics.
One day. One purpose. One voice for lasting change.
On Saturday, September 26, 2026, GFWC clubs around the world will unite for the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) International Day of Service. This year’s global initiative focuses on confronting and preventing domestic and sexual violence, raising public awareness, supporting local shelters, and standing with survivors. As a reminder, last year we collected bras and underwear, and it was very successful.
The national link, if you would like to learn more, is https://www.gfwc.org/gfwc-international-day-of-service/. You do not need to register on the national site, as I have already done that for our club.
This year, our club will honor this day by supporting Bridges Domestic Violence Center in Franklin, TN once again, but our ask is different. This project reflects our club’s vision of compassion, courage, and community. Susan Barber and Darcie Cross have been working with Executive Director Linda Crocket to identify where we can make a real difference. Here’s how you can help:
a. Rally support for Bridge’s Fundraiser
Encourage friends, family, and colleagues to participate in the October 19 Golf Scramble and Pickleball Tournament. And if you’re able, consider volunteering at the tournament yourself—it’s a fun way to show up for an important cause. Contact Susan or Darcie if you are interested in volunteering. And I have also attached the sign-up sheet if you would like to play golf or pickleball! If you sign, up make sure to let us know as we want to count this activity as part of our service outreach activities.
b. Bring donations to our September meeting
We are asking members to contribute any of the following items and bring them to the September meeting:
Paper towels
Toilet paper
Laundry detergent
Fabuloso
Copy paper
Postage stamps
Dawn Ultra dish soap
Laundry soap
Gift cards in small denominations from Walmart, Amazon, Home Depot, Target, or Tractor Supply (for birthday gifts, cleaning supplies, and pet supplies) will be paid for with the club’s budget
Together, we will organize these contributions and deliver them to representatives at Bridges in honor of our Day of Service. Your generosity will bring comfort, dignity, and hope to survivors who need to know they are not alone.
